Family Law & Divorce
Keeping distress to a minimum and providing a supportive environment is key to the work of PCB’s Family law team.
The breakdown of a relationship can be a sad fact of life. It can be a highly stressful time for all involved – particularly for children.
Our friendly staff will ensure a sympathetic ear and practical guidance to help you find your way through the issues that affect families and children. From amicable binding agreements to Court proceedings, the PCB experts are able to assist and ensure you remain informed throughout.
For everyone’s benefit, our aim is always to help resolve issues without confrontation. If a divorce or separation from your partner appears inevitable we can answer all of your questions about your rights and any procedures which need to be followed.
If an amicable agreement does not appear possible, we can then advise on all courses of action that might be available, including taking matters to the courts. At all times our team will ensure you understand the process and are comfortable with what is happening on your behalf.
Issues you will often need to consider will include financial arrangements, where your children will live, when each parent will have contact with them and the legal position of your relationship. We can advise you on all of this.
Important issues we can assist with include:
- Divorce and associated financial and property issues
- Domestic violence and injunctions
- Child custody
- Cohabitation issues
- Adoption
- Care proceedings
- Collaborative Law
- Prenuptial Agreements
Our support will come from our skilled solicitors as well as our team of friendly and experienced clerks and legal executives. Although we can’t remove all the stress from such difficult situations, we can try to alleviate it by acting sensibly in pursuit of the best result for you and your children.
Depending on your circumstances, you may be entitled to public funding for your legal fees. PCB holds a Community Legal Service (Legal Aid) franchise in Family Law, permitting us to carry out Legal Aid-funded work.

"Ruth Harris and her team, especially Hannah Dilks, provided excellent professional advice and service, over a protracted divorce settlement, enabling financial closure with a fair outcome for both parties. I would recommend both Ruth and PCB to anyone in the future requiring legal help and advice. Many thanks again to all."Richard
"I dealt with Ruth Harris throughout and she was excellent. I found that I could trust her completely for help, guidance, advise and even a friendly ear. She made a very difficult process more bearable and I cannot thank her enough."Chris
"I needed some help advice from a solicitor. I called PCB who were very efficient and friendly on the phone. Staff assured me that a solicitor would be in touch. Almost immediately I was contacted by Ruth and given very good sound advice. Ruth was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. I was given the advice over the phone and then in writing via an email. Ruth provided me with her direct contact number and email address which made a huge difference to me. It allowed me to get instant answers. But the most important point I want to make is that all the staff were very friendly and approachable and the biggest point is that they and Ruth have spoken in a plane and easy manner rather than the usual way where none of the advise makes any sense. I would most definitely use PCB again. Can’t fault their service and approach."Mike
Gaynor expertly guided me through a protracted and acrimonious divorce process, which lasted for over four years due to the backlog in the court system after the COVID-19 lockdown, and ultimately helped me to get a fair and reasonable financial settlement. Gaynor was extremely professional throughout and provided me with a first class service. Gaynor gave clear advice. Without Gaynor's support and honest assessments, I would not be in a position to rehouse myself adequately. I would definitely highly recommend Gaynor to anyone who is going through a divorce, especially where the other side is uncooperative and unwilling to engage in the process. Gaynor was an absolute pleasure to deal with, she gave honest advice throughout the divorce proceedings, and was realistic about the outcome that I might expect. Gaynor is very approachable, tenacious when necessary, and I would definitely use again.Anonymous
I have been in contact with Gaynor for almost 12 months which has been a pleasure. She has been very professional whilst also very caring in my matter. I was kept up to date with clear guidance via phone & email with timely responses. I would 100% recommend PCB & especially Gaynor for any family matters.Russ
